Entrepreneurship is argued to be a critical driver of economic growth for both individual communities and the nation. Regional scientists, economists, and policy makers underscore the importance of a diverse economy that supports recruitment of new firms, existing firms, and entrepreneurship efforts. However, there remains evidence that many states and localities prefer traditional industrial recruitment efforts and that local and state entrepreneurial efforts may be less coordinated.

To test the hypothetical relationships, an ordinal regression with two link functions was applied on an original dataset of small and medium-sized enterprises SMEs operating in Slovakia and Czech Republic. Consistent with prior research, it is found that an unstable economic environment leads the business to expose themselves to business risk. Also, a friendly regulation framework and quality education contribute significantly to reducing the level of risk. The research triggers the interest of policymakers who design policies aimed at improving the business environment by reducing the level of risk that firms face in doing business. Also, this paper is useful for managerial perspective, since entrepreneur attitude was found to be a predictor of business risk.

Public policy studies often seek to determine the effects of policy changes by treating the effects of individual differences as random error. Viewing managers as embedded agents whose social structures are subject to manipulation by policy makers, we illustrate how individual differences can be infused into policy research to glean insight into how and why policy changes affect decisions, such as where to locate new ventures. We consider how the effects of sociopolitical situational attributes e. Our illustrative investigation suggests that individual differences can systematically influence the efficacy of public policy and therefore deserve greater scholarly attention. We conclude by articulating the benefits of an embedded agency approach to researching entrepreneurship public policy.

Important factors which predict entrepreneur’s perception in business risk

This study seeks to investigate the linkages between firm characteristics firm age and size and perceived important social factors for entrepreneurship. The research is administered on a firm-level data collection through a survey. The paper uses principal component analysis and non-parametric methods, including a post-hoc test to examine the above linkages within an original dataset of small and medium-sized enterprises SMEs operating in Czech Republic and Slovakia. The results reveal that the perceived important social factors have a negative association with firm age and a positive one with firm size.
