Out of this encounter he formed two conclusions: first, that Jesus Christ is alive; second, that the Bible is a true, relevant, up-to-date book. These conclusions altered the whole course of his life, which he then devoted to studying and teaching the Bible. There are lots of people who might say they are struggling for faith. The truth is not that they are struggling for faith, but that they may have never met the condition of repentance. Repentance is the first of the six foundation doctrines. True and False Repentance

By Zacharias Tanee Fomum. True Repentance includes: knowledge of sin, sorrow for sin, confession of sin, forsaking of sin, restitution for sin, forgiveness sought and received, and restoration to the heart of God. Unless otherwise stated, the Bible quotations in this book are from the Revised Standard Version of the holy Bible, the British edition. One reason why believers commit sin with such alarming frequency, committing the same sin over and over is that their eyes have never been opened to the harm that sin does to God. It is a knife thrust willingly into His heart! Another reason why sin is committed so deliberately and with such impunity is that believers have for the most part been unwilling to confront the dangers that sin would cause them in every domain of their lives.

In these verses, the Holy Spirit speaks of two kinds of sorrow for sin, one producing repentance leading to salvation, the other bringing death. Lately I have been frequently led to ask God why there is so much false religion, and I have tried to find out the root of the problem.

True repentance involves a change of opinion respecting the nature of sin followed by a corresponding change of feeling toward sin. Feeling is the result of.

Do you constantly long for your sin? Do you love your sin more than Jesus and find yourself only hating its consequences? In repentance, a person is given a true sense of the heinous nature of sin and, hating it, they turn to God through Christ with the desire to part ways with it. It is a gift that God gives to us and true repentance leads to eternal life 2 Tim. The Bible does make it clear that not all repentance is genuine, though.

In his excellent book, Repentance , John Colquhoun gives 8 distinctions between true and counterfeit repentance. False repentance flows from faith in the law as a covenant and is legal; but true repentance flows from true faith in the law and the gospel. He does not actually become righteous because he seeks it by works Rom
