For chemistry students and teachers: The tabular chart on the right is arranged by Atomic mass weight. Please note that the elements do not show their natural relation towards each other as in the Periodic system. There you can find the metals, semi-conductor s , non-metal s , inert noble gas ses , Halogens, Lanthanoides, Actinoids rare earth elements and transition metals.

The periodic table of the elements is one of the most powerful icons in science: a single document that consolidates much of our knowledge of chemistry. A version hangs on the wall of nearly every chemical laboratory and lecture hall in the world. Indeed, nothing quite like it exists in the other disciplines of science. The story of the periodic system for classifying the elements can be traced back over years. But despite the dramatic changes that have taken place in science over the past century—namely, the development of the theories of relativity and quantum mechanics—there has been no revolution in the basic nature of the periodic system.
Atomic Number, Mass Number, and Isotopes
In chemistry , an element is a pure substance consisting only of atoms that all have the same numbers of protons in their atomic nuclei. Unlike chemical compounds , chemical elements cannot be broken down into simpler substances by chemical means. The number of protons in the nucleus is the defining property of an element, and is referred to as its atomic number represented by the symbol Z — all atoms with the same atomic number are atoms of the same element. When different elements undergo chemical reactions , atoms are rearranged into new compounds held together by chemical bonds. Only a minority of elements, such as silver and gold , are found uncombined as relatively pure native element minerals. Nearly all other naturally-occurring elements occur in the Earth as compounds or mixtures. Air is primarily a mixture of the elements nitrogen , oxygen , and argon , though it does contain compounds including carbon dioxide and water.
Atoms are the fundamental building blocks of all matter and are composed of protons, neutrons, and electrons. Because atoms are electrically neutral, the number of positively charged protons must be equal to the number of negatively charged electrons. Since neutrons do not affect the charge, the number of neutrons is not dependent on the number of protons and will vary even among atoms of the same element. The atomic number represented by the letter Z of an element is the number of protons in the nucleus of each atom of that element. An atom can be classified as a particular element based solely on its atomic number. For example, any atom with an atomic number of 8 its nucleus contains 8 protons is an oxygen atom, and any atom with a different number of protons would be a different element.

Now you have been introduced to the concept of an isotope it is possible to address one of the key challenges facing a chemist.
Allotropes Some elements exist in several different structural forms, called allotropes. Each allotrope has different physical properties. For more information on the Visual Elements image see the Uses and properties section below.
The biennial review of atomic-weight determinations and other cognate data has resulted in changes for the standard atomic weights of 19 elements. The standard atomic weights of four elements have been revised based on recent determinations of isotopic abundances in natural terrestrial materials:. Comprehensive tables of recommended atomic-weight values for use in science, industry, and commerce began with F. In , the American Chemical Society appointed Clarke as a permanent one-man committee to report on a standard table of atomic weights for acceptance by the society, and he reported annually from until , when he asked to be relieved of this responsibility. In , the German Chemical Society appointed a working committee to report on atomic weights. They published reports on best values and also issued an invitation to other chemistry organizations to appoint delegates to an international committee for atomic weights. This committee joined the International Association of Chemical Societies in September , until it was dissolved in

Sometimes it's nice to have a paper version of the periodic table of the elements that you can refer to when working problems or doing experiments in the lab. This is a collection of periodic tables that you can print and use. Note: For values featuring all elements, more free printable periodic tables are also available. Here is the pdf file of the color periodic table so you can save and print it. There is also a edition of this table.
Похож на китайца. Японец, подумал Беккер. - Бедняга. Сердечный приступ. Беккер безучастно кивнул: - Так мне сказали.
Ты видел кольцо. Двухцветный замер. Как правильно ответить. - Viste el anillo? - настаивал обладатель жуткого голоса. Двухцветный утвердительно кивнул, убежденный, что честность - лучшая политика. Разумеется, это оказалось ошибкой. В следующую секунду, со сломанными шейными позвонками, он сполз на пол.
